Jane Radstrom is a painter and designer based in Austin, TX.

Another new painting of Cassandra. These poses were shot from up on a ladder above, which makes her seem kind of weightless.

New piece! Nupastel and Oil on Arches Oil Paper. The inspiration for this came from the client, as this is a commission. They requested a horizontal back view, “with tension”. Probably my favorite brief, ever!
The model is Meka La Creme.

Two new pieces. I am interested in the false modesty of these poses.

This is my first time using the Arches Oil Paper, which is a specialty paper that is not gessoed, but is archival for oil paint. I did the usual pastel drawings (a bit harder to get details with this surface) and then added oil paint for texture and variety in the backgrounds. You can see bits of oil paint more clearly in the close ups.

Seraphina Song is the model.
New piece for the Girls Series, “Girl in White”. Also the first time I have used the reference that I took last month of Seraphina. I loved the picture of her with her head thrown back, but it reminded me a bit too much of a glamour shot. The picture of her looking straight at the viewer feels so confident, it is almost a challenge. I thought the two layered together would be more interesting than either one apart.

A new double exposure drawing. I wanted the two figures to have different colors, where they overlap the palette is complete.

An iPad sketch. From imagination (I so rarely work all out of my head), done in the procreate app.

A few gesture drawings from live models. Done with Nupastels, 10 minute drawings, and a 30 minute one.

Work in progress - new drawing for the Girls series experimenting with double exposure. I took hundreds of photos during this shoot. Many are just a slight movement from one picture to the next. This whole series is very influenced by photographic effects and using them as an inspiration to depart from traditional observed reality.  Now, I have to figure out how to finish the drawing.

Opening tonight: 100 Degrees summer group show at Wally Workman Gallery. If you’re in Austin, stop by the gallery tonight from 6-8pm! Several of The Girls series are there, including “Girl Reclining” and “Girl in Blue”. I have to say, they look fantastic framed and it’s great to see them hanging on the wall! The show will be up through August.

I’m excited to announce that I am now represented in Austin, TX by Wally Workman gallery! Wally has been instrumental in creating a serious market for art in Austin since the gallery opened in 1980 (32 years!). Some of the pieces from my Girls series will be showing during the upcoming summer group exhibition, “100 Degrees”. The gallery shows some very talented contemporary representational artists. I’m looking forwarding to seeing how my work is received.
