Gesture drawings from a live model last night. The black ones are 5 minute poses, and the one on toned paper is 10 minutes. Nupastel and charcoal stick. Life drawing is fantastic for reminding me to be efficient, less is more.
A few gesture drawings from live models. Done with Nupastels, 10 minute drawings, and a 30 minute one.
Opening tonight: 100 Degrees summer group show at Wally Workman Gallery. If you’re in Austin, stop by the gallery tonight from 6-8pm! Several of The Girls series are there, including “Girl Reclining” and “Girl in Blue”. I have to say, they look fantastic framed and it’s great to see them hanging on the wall! The show will be up through August.
When other ideas fail, draw your drink! Sketching at some local spots around town. My favorite neighborhood coffee shop - Dolce Vita, the best Italian food in Austin - Sagra, and a new nose-to-tail restaurant with some well done cocktails - The Salty Sow. (Get the idea that I like to eat a lot?) That time between ordering and receiving your food is a perfect opportunity for a quick drawing!
A few more ball point pen sketches! Two of my dear lady friends relaxing at the springs, I like that one is reading a book and on the opposing page she is reading a kindle. The final sketch is a repeating drawing self portrait - “inception”.
Live Drawing @ Art Seen Alliance Party
Hello, 2012! Starting off the new year with some fun projects and collaborations.

DJ Manny invited Orlando Sanchez and I to do some live drawing at the Art Seen Alliance Party last night. The event sold out, so The Parish was packed. The crowd was really into the music and art combo. Orlando and I did quick sketches from live models, changing pose every 10-15 minutes. It turns out that my favorite drawing of the evening is a little sketch of Tom that I did before the party started:
